Why Boulder Is Emerging as a National Stadium Tour Stop for the World’s Biggest Artists

Picture this…it is the summer of 2024, and ODESZA is about to play one of their biggest shows ever in Colorado. Where, you might ask? Fiddler’s Green? Red Rocks? Nope, it is Folsom Field at the University of Colorado. The football field for the one and only Colorado Buffaloes. For me, this was the first time I had been to Boulder, and I wondered whether AEG and the University itself would continue to do big shows here.

Fast forward to 2026, and my intuition was 100% correct. AEG Presents Rocky Mountains is doubling down on Boulder as a national destination for large-scale live music. The 2026 calendar says it all…GRAMMY winners RÜFÜS DU SOL and Mumford & Sons, Tyler Childers, and hometown breakout Disco Lines are all set to take over the city.

Dead & Co Headline in July of 2023

Long known for its natural beauty, countercultural edge, and deep-rooted music history, Boulder is stepping into a new era, with Folsom Field positioned as the centerpiece for destination-level concerts. Backed by a strong ecosystem of venues like the Fox Theatre, Boulder Theater, Chautauqua Auditorium, and Macky Auditorium, the city has long punched above its weight musically. Now, that legacy is scaling.

Since opening in 1924, Folsom Field has hosted legends from The Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney to Phish, Dead & Company, and, of course, the ODESZA concert I mentioned above. Set against the Flatirons with a 50,000+ capacity, it’s one of the most scenic and culturally significant stadium venues in the country, and artists feel that the moment they step on site.

AEG’s partnership with CU Boulder and the city has fueled this momentum. Disco Lines returns home for his largest Boulder headline yet at Farrand Field in April. Mumford & Sons bring their stadium show to Folsom in June. Tyler Childers follows in July. And RÜFÜS DU SOL’s massive Inhale / Exhale tour stop in August puts Boulder alongside major stadium markets like New York, Chicago, Boston, and Los Angeles.

The message is clear: Boulder isn’t just hosting shows, it’s becoming a destination. Just 30 minutes from Denver but offering an entirely different energy, it’s walkable, vibrant, scenic, and uniquely immersive. You can hike in the morning, hit Pearl Street in the afternoon, and catch a landmark stadium show at night.

Live music is now a core part of Boulder’s cultural identity and tourism strategy, and with AEG’s long-term investment, the city is positioning itself as a year-round hub for nationally significant live events. Boulder’s next chapter isn’t coming; it feels like it is already here.
