Catching Up with Elderbrook Ahead of His Red Rocks Show [Interview]

Few artists are able to fuse introspection with movement the way Elderbrook does. Whether it’s through his raw, soul-bearing vocals or layered, atmospheric production, the British multi-instrumentalist has carved out a distinct niche. And this Friday, April 11, that energy returns to one of the most iconic venues in the world: Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

It’s been almost a year since Elderbrook first headlined the historic Colorado stage, and with a brand-new album under his belt, he’s ready to push even deeper into the emotional terrain and sonic landscapes that make his live shows some of our favorites.

We caught up with him ahead of his performance to talk nerves, new music, and what makes Red Rocks such sacred ground.

It’s been almost a year to the day since your last time at Red Rocks! How are you feeling for this year’s show?

Elderbrook: Yeah, it’s pretty much around the exact same time as last year. I feel excited about it. I think I feel like I can relax into it a bit more than last time because the Red Rocks debut is always peppered with nerves – and the weight of Red Rocks, if that makes sense. Might make it a better show now that I know my way around it a bit more. I’m excited to play the new stuff. A lot of the new records were made for this kind of space. They’ll do the rocks justice!

As an artist who thrives on live performance, what does it mean to connect with fans in a venue as iconic as Red Rocks, and how does it compare to other legendary venues on your tour?

Elderbrook: Red Rocks is the big one, isn’t it? All the shows on this tour have been slightly bigger than the last venues in the cities, which is great—and I love doing the bigger shows. There’s more energy in the room for everyone, including me, to connect to. Red Rocks is special. I think because my musical heroes have all played there. The venue itself is thousands of years old. It’s beautiful and, yeah, the stars really align when I step up on the red stage for sure. I can definitely feel the energy.

Collaborations have been a big part of your musical journey… can fans at Red Rocks expect any surprises in your performance, or is there a specific moment you’re most excited to share on that stage?

Elderbrook: I’ll be playing my new song Waterfall (with Ahmed Spins) for the first time at Red Rocks. This song is so emotional, suspenseful, grand, and yet intimate. Perfect for the venue. I’m looking forward to that moment, for sure.

A Legacy in the Making

For those who’ve followed Elderbrook’s trajectory, the return to Red Rocks marks yet another chapter in an already stacked resume. Since his breakout hit “Cola” with Camelphat in 2017, he’s stacked GRAMMY and Ivor Novello nominations, toured with the likes of ODESZA and RÜFÜS DU SOL, and played marquee stages from Coachella’s Sahara Tent to sold-out global venues.

But Elderbrook’s success isn’t just about the numbers (1.5 billion+ global streams and counting). It’s about his ability to connect – song after song, show after show – through themes of identity, mental health, and human vulnerability.

With Another Touch, his latest LP released earlier this year, Elderbrook leans even further into the cinematic. These new tracks are built for spaces like Red Rocks.
