People have said for years that this is going to be the year for Drum & Bass, but in 2024 we think that rings more true than ever. For that we have many people to thank and that includes The Black Box!
October contains an incredible lineup top to bottom, with a wide range of genres and sounds from Mia Koden, Juju Beats, LuSid, and The Rust Music alongside a cast of Drum & Bass artists that may have you questioning the location. Including S.P.Y, Tim Reaper, GLXY (Denver debut), and the legendary Roni Size, October is packed with must-see events.
Let it Roll
While many know The Black Box as the home of Dubstep in Denver, it has also been a catalyst for the storied Drum & Bass genre since day one. With the combined efforts of Sub.mission and RECON D&B, we’ve seen the likes of originators like Goldie, London Elektricity, & Ray Keith as well as current staples Break, DLR, Alix Perez, and so many more.
This month, RECON celebrates a milestone of their own 21st anniversary with all-star producer & DJ S.P.Y, alongside junglist-favorite Tim Reaper and 88 Katanas. Perhaps one of our favorites in rotation lately, S.P.Y brings an unmatched energy with his signature sound and deep catalog and this is a pin on our calendar.
For a real roots & history of D&B experience, look no further than living legend Roni Size. With dubplates and VIPs you won’t hear anywhere else, you can expect anything from 90s jump up to liquid classics and maybe a cheeky blend of the two.
In addition, liquid duo GLXY make their much anticipated Denver debut on October 10 following Submersion Festival, an event we think everyone should keep an eye on. Their latest pair of EPs Love, Chaos and Fear, Ego, and countless hit singles, they’ve cemented their place in our playlists and we can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store.
Keep Digging
Of course with so many dates on the calendar, there’s still room for more to explore! One of the dates we’re most excited for is Mia Koden on October 8! Formerly part of Sicaria Sound, Mia Koden is an unbelievable DJ with a unique style combining classic dubstep and dance tracks with a modern twist and some cultural influence of their own.
For the more psychedelic dance flavors, October 12 is one to watch with LuSid returning for an extended set sure to leave a lasting impression. He’s fresh off the release of his recent release The Bizness, diving deep into his influences and leaning into the fun of it all.
Last but not least, we couldn’t go without mentioning our friends at The Rust Music! Hosted by label-boss Malakai, Craftal, Hoopla, and Callmenikkip, we can’t recommend making time for this show enough.
For the full calendar, check below to find your flavor and grab tickets ASAP as they are flying for many of these events. Tickets are available NOW at The Black Box website. Don’t forget to stop at the bar to see their latest non-alcoholic options!
