There’s no better time than now to go to a drive-in movie theater. Drive-in movies naturally comply with social distancing and they’re pet-friendly and family-friendly too! As we approach the summer months, Denver will be blooming with pop-up drive-ins. Here’s a helpful guide to planning the perfect date at a drive-in movie in Denver.
88 Drive-In Theatre
The 88 Drive-In Theatre is the last remaining original drive-in movie theater in the Denver metro area. It’s been open since 1972 and owned by the same family since 1976. What separates 88 Drive-In Theatre from other drive-ins is its state-of-the-art 40’ by 70’ digital projector and 35mm film capabilities.
To maintain social distancing, 88 Drive-In is allowing 250 cars each night. They are expecting to reopen for the 2021 season on April 16th. You’ll need a working FM car stereo or portable radio to hear the films (radio apps will not work). The box office opens rain or shine at 7 pm every Sunday-Thursday; tickets are $9 a person and children 11 and under are free of cost (tickets are not sold in advance).
Film on the Rocks — The Drive-In
Red Rocks is returning for its 21st Film on the Rocks season, but this year it’s a drive-in. Starting August 13th, Red Rocks will turn into a drive-in theatre, Thursday-Sunday nights at 6 pm in the Lower South Lot 2 Parking area. Tickets are $59.50 per car.
This date night offers more than just a movie – Red Rocks is surrounded by hiking trails and ancient fossils. Get there early to explore the outdoors with your partner and then crawl into your vehicle once the sun has set for one of the classic movies Red Rocks plays each year. Find your tickets at denverfilm.org.
Whether you are looking for a romantic dinner or an adventurous hike to begin your drive-in movie date night, 88 Drive-In Theatre and Film on the Rocks have you covered! Enjoy the simplicity and safety that a drive-in move in Denver has to offer and your loved one this summer.
From the River Beats Colorado team: It’s been a very challenging time for travel, adventure, and events around our state. While we’re aware these uncertain times may limit many aspects of life, we hope our editorials provide helpful tips while ensuring safe social and physical distancing.
