Aging like a fine wine, Sub.mission steps into their seventeenth year of operation as strong as they’ve ever been. For the month of May, they’ve honed in on the foundations of the community & culture we’ve come to love.
This month features both artists with lasting impact such as Break, Luke Vibert, and J:Kenzo, and artists who have a mark yet to make like MYTHM, Nic Baker, and HoneyBee! We can’t wait to see what’s in store.
Lost in a Digital World
Without question one of the most exciting announcements we’ve seen come down the pipeline, Symmetry Recordings CEO and Drum & Bass icon Break returns to Denver May 16! While some may not be familiar with his name, they’ve likely been exposed to his work.
His latest album Digital World was met with critical acclaim, featuring his signature percussion and collaborations with Liam Bailey, Charli Brix, and the late MC Fats. Selected as one of our Top Albums of 2023, it may also be one of our favorites in recent memory.
Another artist we’ve kept on close watch is MYTHM, helping kick the month off on May 3. Since our interview at the head of 2022, he’s taken incredible strides most recently landing the release of his debut album Mind of Madness on Deadbeats.
Rising Stars
One of the most notable things about The Black Box is their ability to create spaces for artists like Break and Luke Vibert alongside newcomers Nic Baker & HoneyBee. They always say two heads are better than one, and Nic Baker is a shining example of what happens when you combine two creative forces on similar paths.
With the combined efforts of Inspect3r and Vide, Nic Baker was formed and has quickly become a representative for the budding movement of Garage and 2-Step on dancefloors in the US. The duo will perform alongside Villain Era (comprised of Tygris, Charles Nimbus, & Wessanders) who have also begun to make their mark on the historic dance genre.
Since her impeccable 2023 Sonic Bloom performance, HoneyBee has risen from setting the tone of the evening to shutting the show down in the main room blending modern bass music and sound design with trap influences and fluid mixing. We can’t wait to see this one, and we expect tickets to move quick!
